I See What You Did There Maria. Lily Is Too Weak To Attend Colleen’s Funeral. ‘Black Box’ Anyone?

The number one counter argument to the complaint that colored folks don’t get screen time on Y&R, is that Lily is on all the time. True. But have you paid attention to her scenes lately? (I know, with this show’s current state of FAIL, I’m asking a lot from you.) For the last month at least, Lily has had the EXACT same scene. Oh no? Let me spell it out for you:
Lily (of course EVERY ONE of these scenes take place on that sofa, in that house): Cane, whine, whine, whine, snap, snap, roll eye
Cane: Oh, you’re so cute when make the ‘I’m pissed’ face. (pats her on the head like a dog)
Lily: yada, yada, yada, Dru.
Cane: How is babby formed?
Lily: You’re right. I shouldn’t complain.
the end.
My problem is not with Lily, or Lane. My problem is with the horrible writing that has these characters playing the same scene over and over. It seems giving Lily cancer was Maria’s way of putting Lily in the ‘black box‘ without obviously putting her in the ‘black box.’ See, Lily’s on screen all the time, so people don’t notice it. But the only person she shares scenes with is Cane (who might as well be on minority row himself). Occasionally one of the ‘others’ will take pity and visit Miss Lily since she’s too weak to leave the house. But it’s all so ridic.
She’s finally granted a pardon and gets out on parole long enough to go to the hospital to visit her dead friend. But Parole Officer Ashby tells her to make it quick, she’s sick. Hello, Parole Officer Ashby, she’s in a hospital. If she’s sick, this is the place to be. Now word around the ‘net is, Lily’s immune system will be too compromised to go to Colleen’s funeral.
Well played, Maria. Well played. This is how you effectively isolate a character and give said character a ‘reason’ to do nothing, all while giving people what they ‘want’– more Lily, and more Lane. At one time the Lily character may have been fully integrated into the cast, but these days Lily is just as isolated as Neil and Devon. The difference is, we get to witness her isolation under the pretense that we’re watching the character go through cancer.
But hey, if y’all like it, I love it.
2009 Daytime Emmys – Christel Khalil

Let me preface this by saying, Christel Khalil is beautiful. I’m sure most of us can agree on this, and the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards was no exception for her. Her hair was gorgeous, and so was her makeup. But please, will someone explain this dress to me? It has shoulder pads! Shoulder pads for crying out loud! Shoulder pads that I can clearly see through the fabric! I know the eighties are in right now, but damn, LOL. I think Christel looks great in this shade of blue, but my like of this dress ends there. The fit does nothing for her, and I think the style is ‘too old.’ First, this poor girl had to participate in the travesty that was that ‘fashion show‘ and now…this. But hey, maybe I’m just the one who lacks a decent fashion sense, and Christel actually looks the bomb. If you’re loving CK’s look, then you can grab her look for less at goJane.com for a mere $75. Hey, we’re in a recession y’all!

2009 Daytime Emmys – Fashion Show
Someone at the crap fest that was otherwise known as the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards, thought it would be a great idea host a fashion show– and I use the term ‘fashion show’ hella loosely here– featuring some of daytime’s hottest, or not so hottest couples. I had serious second hand embarrassment for all parties involved in this foolery. And Christel Khalil…no…just…no. You can judge for yourself, but in the words of Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather, “Hated It!” (two snapz for the kids)

p.s. Somewhere, Tyra Banks was backstage shaking her damn head. Why didn’t any of these hos smile with their eyes? And where is Miss J when you need him?
e.t.a. The Guiding Light tribute got cut short for a commercial break, yet this foolery was allowed to go on? And mind you, this crap came directly before a segment in the show dedicated to starving children in Africa. Directly before. Without a commercial break. End of.
e.t.a. part II. To further add insult to injury, Guiding Light didn’t even get to have a couple in this whack ass ‘fashion show.’
Y&R Recap. Monday, August 17th 2009
Lily wants to leave the nest again and live with her lying husband Fillip. Kneel and Devon don’t want her to go. If it’s because of the bag she’s using to pack her sh-t in, I can’t say that I blame them.
Lily is a seven year old girl.
Kneel is being rather overbearing as per usual but I see where he’s coming from. It’s a common situation. Someone you care about is dating a real dick. Time and time again you try to make her see the light because he’s hurt her before and you know he’ll hurt her again but she keeps taking him back. She’s so in it; she’s so wrapped up in this person that there’s really nothing that you can say to make her see it. She has to decide for herself. Neil is on shaky ground. The more he pushes, the more she’ll pull away. (more…)
Delusional Bitch Pick: 7/20/09

For two weeks in a row Christel Khalil has shown that she’s more than just a pretty. In an industry were looks can over shadow talent, CK proved to the critical ass who said that she was nothing more than a hair model, that she’s a good actress. For the past few months the actress has been given cheesy dialogue and has been forced to play a character, who seemed to be lacking any depth or maturity, and at times seemed to show her dislike for such drivel, by phoning in her scenes. But when given good dialogue in a craptastic s/l, CK turned crap into gold. When Lily Winters was diagnosed with Cancer, Christel gave a performance with enough emotional depth to have made a grown man cry. With a maturity that is rarely scene in the character, Lily made some hard choices and although many wouldn’t have agreed with them, most understood. It takes a good actress to not only make you feel her pain, but to understand it. Many didn’t like that Lily wanted Assby by her side, but Christel delivered in such a way that although many not care for her choice of spouse and would like nothing more than to him ran over by an eighteen wheeler, you understood why she wanted him there. And although the character my have left the hospital and went out to look for this man, when she found him she spoke like a woman who needed someone to understand, and to lean on. End the he may not have told her what she wanted to her and may not have been the ear that was needed *cough Billy cough* you knew that it was important for her to see him. In conclusion, although, I believe that this s/l was unnecessary and cruel, I am happy that the viewers of Y&R (especially the dumbass critics) got a chance to see depth of Lily Winters, portrayed so beautifully by Christel Khalil.
