Eric Braeden has agreed to ‘return‘ to The Young and The Restless. I’m Dun, and can’t even be bothered to upload a picture (I lied, balloon boy welcomes you. Thanks Moni!), LOL. Oh well, Adrienne Frantz, there goes your extended screen time.
The Pink Slips Keep Coming, Thom Bierdz Has Also Been Given The Boot
In an interview with The Advocate’s Michael Fairman, Thom Bierdz reveals that not only is his six month contract with The Young and The Restless up, but he also only appears in eight episodes this November. He’s asking fans to write to CBS, and request that Phillip Chancellor stays in Genoa City.
Here is the thing; I know I am on in eight episodes in November and then the truth is, I sort of disappear. My six-month contract is up. And I really want to support the gay community, and I want the gay community to support me. I would like the gay community to write to CBS and say, ‘We want a gay character on the air,’ and I want to be that?.
All I have to say, is that the behind the scenes drama at Y&R is FAAAAAAAAAR more entertaining than what’s going on the show.
Not This Again. Sony Wants Melody Thomas Scott Out.
The internet is all abuzz with rumors that Sony is trying to force out Melody Thomas Scott at The Young and The Restless. Scott went through drama filled contract negotiations over the summer, but eventually re-signed with the show. Now ‘insiders’ are starting to talk, saying Scott’s contract was only a short term deal to coincide with Eric Braeden’s Victor Newman being written out.
Sony wants Scott either dropped to recurring, or gone entirely from the show, and Melody wants a contract. Looks like Sony is trying to pull a “John and Marlena” at Y&R, by getting rid of all the show’s vets. I hope those of you who are still watching are prepared for the Amber/Billy/Daniel/Chloe/Kevin/Jana/Ryder/Lily comedy hour.

William Russ has been cast on The Young and The Restless as Tucker. Yeah, I don’t give two shits either.
Eric Braeden and The Young & The Restless, After 30 Years It’s Over
Victor Newman is really leaving Genoa City, y’all! In an ‘exclusive’ to Entertainment Weekly, Eric Braeden tells them that it’s over:
“We reached an impasse in the negotiations,” Braeden told EW.com. “I have shown flexibility, they have shown none. It is over. I pulled the plug. That’s it. No more. If I show good will, I expect it to be reciprocated. If there is a rigid attitude on the other side, what is there to to negotiate? That’s a sign of utter disrespect. I will not negotiate with people who remain aloof and arrogant about the whole thing. Not after 30 years, I won’t do that. I’m saying this with a great amount of sadness because I’ve had nothing but respect for my fellow cast members, I have deep respect for the crew who has done an extraordinary job year in and year out, and I have enormous respect for (head writer) Maria Bell.”
Strangely, I feel genuinely sad.
If You Already Thought Lily’s ‘Old Man’ Looked Old…
…wait until you see him standing next to Lily’s father as played by Marcus Patrick. Soap Opera Digest is reporting the the Days (Jett Carver) and Passions (Father Denny) alum was seen auditioning for the role of Malcolm Winters. I’m hoping this one doesn’t pan out. It will be tough trying to replace Shemar Moore, and I’m not quite convinced that Patrick is the right choice. Plus, does this guy really look old enough to be Lily’s father?
Personally, I say keep Malcolm lost wherever he is, unless Shemar Moore returns, or the writing team at Y&R is replaced. Whichever comes first.
p.s. For those not in the know,’old man’ is slang for your husband, boyfriend, or cut buddy.
p.p.s. Do a Google image search for “Marcus Patrick,” and see what you find, LOL.
Casting News, Yvonne Zima Is ‘Daisy’
According to Daytime Royalty, Yvonne Zima has been cast as Daisy, Summer’s babysitter. Her storyline supposedly involves Noah and Daniel (WTF?), but according to SOC, she has ties to Ryder. I just have one question: WHO THE HELL CARES?
This show wouldn’t have to slash people’s salaries, if they would just quit hiring newbies. Again, NO ONE CARES.
p.s. If Yvonne looks familiar to you, that’s because she’s the younger sister of Madeline Zima, ‘Grace’ on The Nanny. Or Claire’s ‘girlfriend’ on Heroes, LOL.
For The Doubting Thomases, Tammin Sursok Finally Talks about Her Y&R Exit
After all the “Is she, or isn’t she really leaving?” speculation, Tammin Sursok finally talks to Soap Opera Digest about her exit from Y&R as Colleen Carlton.
Sursok says that her exit from Y&R was a mutual decision between her and the show. “It was becoming too difficult to do Y&R and then work out outside films and projects,” says the actress. “I was actually in Iowa shooting a film during that time (when Colleen’s final scenes were shot),” she explains. “They had to use insert shots of me (which were filmed beforehand) for when she was shown in bed in the hospital.”
She also says that she’s glad Colleen’s death served a greater purpose for Y&R. Greater purpose? I respect the fact that Tammin was too busy doing other things (girl, get out while the getting is good), to devote time to Y&R. But Colleen’s death served no purpose for the legacy of this show, other than to provide a spike in ratings, and give people material for their Emmy reels. I guess there’s a clause in the actor’s contracts saying they can’t speak ill of their story lines. It’s the only explanation I can come up with.

“Are we all friends? No. Are we family? No. That ‘family’ thing is bullshit.” Eric Braeden Tells It Like It Is to TV Guide.
That lovely title is a direct quote from Eric Braeden, given during a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan. The Mustache dishes on why as of now, he’s through with Y&R, how he feels the top brass disrespected him, and how he believes Victor’s entire story line as of late, has been a setup to write him out.
It’s an interesting read, but it was that top quote that caught my eye. There’s been a lot of behind the scenes drama recently, on whether Victoria Rowell should return to the show or not. On one side of the argument are those who say despite how ‘difficult’ she is, she’s fabulous, and the show needs her. On the other side are those who say there are too many people on set who don’t like VR to warrant her returning and shaking the boat. Well, according to Eric Braeden:
Are we all friends? No. Are we family? No. That “family” thing is bull—-. But do I respect t he actors I work with? You bet.
And that’s where I believe the issue lies. These actors don’t need to like each other. It’s a job. I sure as hell don’t like everyone I work with, but at the end of the day, we all get the job done.
This genre is on its last legs, and they don’t have the luxury to one, get rid of veterans like Braeden, and two, turn down fan favorites who are willing to return. The other soaps are pulling out all the stops these days, it’s time for Y&R to do the same.
p.s. Why is it, that when Eric Braeden speaks out, he’s dropping knowledge? But when Victoria Rowell does it, she’s being an ungrateful bitch? I’m just asking.
“Kate’s 28,” Elizabeth Hendrickson, Too Finds Work Outside of Y&R
On the heels of Sharon Case joining the cast of Hallmark Channel’s Man of the House, and Tammin Sursok battling killer scarecrows in Husk, Elizabeth Hendrickson has nabbed the lead in Kate’s 28, a comedy/musical web series from Sam Riegel and Rob Blatt, aka Riegel&Blatt. No stranger to moonlighting or web series, Liz also stars as Lizzie in Imaginary Bitches, alongside former AMC co-star Eden Riegel. Love her or hate her, you can’t knock Elizabeth Hendrickson’s hustle. Check out the pilot episode of Kate’s 28 below.

Did Al Sharpton Write A Letter? Kristoff St. John Is Back to Work.
Nah, Al Sharpton is too busy playing hide the salami with LisaRaye to write a letter for a poor brotha to get some screen time on a soap. But Kristoff St. John did update his facebook page with the news that he is in fact back to work on the set of The Sucky and The Suckier. That’s good to know Kristoff, but tell me this. Is Neil getting a genuine story? Or is he still shucking and jiving for the Chancellor’s (gag), Newman’s (double gag), Ashby’s (triple gag), et al? I’m just asking. Inquiring minds want to know.
The Man Who Threw Up The Deuces And Said, “Bye, Bitches!” Eric Braeden Has Been Written out of Y&R.
Victor Newman is leaving Genoa City y’all! Nelson Branco is reporting that Victor is being written out of Y&R and Eric Braeden has taped his last scenes on the show. In other words, someone is in the middle of contract negotiations. I’m sure Victor is being ‘written out’ just like Nikki was ‘written out’ while Melody Thomas Scott was undergoing her own contract negotiations, but according to Nelson’s sources, on his last day of taping, Braeden said he may not be returning, and thanked everyone for their hard work.
Everyone and their mama knows that tiic at Y&R have been asking their actors to take pay cuts (we’re in a recession y’all!), and peeps have been eagerly waiting to see what would happen when it was The Great Victor Newman’s, err I mean, Eric Braeden’s turn on the chopping block. According to rumors though, Braeden doesn’t have a problem taking a pay cut, but he does have a problem taking one in the middle of his contract. Yeah, I’d be a little salty about that, too.
As much as I loathe and despise Victor Newman these days, I can’t imagine Y&R without him or Eric Braeden. We’ll see how this all plays out though. I find it highly suspect that more news leaks about the backstage happenings at Y&R than the actual show plots. Things that make you go hmmm…
“Give Us, Us Free!” Bryton James Tweets He Wants Off Minority Row
Twitter is the place to be these days for the brown actors of Y&R to express their discontent with the show. Thank goodness for technology, otherwise we might be led to believe they enjoy being seen once a year, and like the near incestuous story lines they’re given. Bryton James basically told Maria he wanted to be “given his free!” when he tweeted this interesting bit of info:
How about mix “us” up with the actors we have instead of bringing on new ones? I want out of our “black box”… Still happy to be working.
Hmm…seems like someone finally voiced what we’ve all been saying for months now. I guess Bryton’s message was still too cryptic for folks, because he later had to clarify with this response:
I mean that the Winters have stories with the Winters, with the exception of Lily.
Ruh roh. All is not right in the land of Maria and co. I guess the only colored person currently happy with her Y&R status is Christel Khalil. And why shouldn’t she be? Homegirl gets paid to come to work and sit on a sofa all day. Shouldn’t we all be so blessed, LOL.
Of course you know massah (a.k.a Maria Arena Hell) couldn’t allow her puppets to get too vocal, because this is Bryton’s latest message:
I just want to make it clear that i’m not bashing our writers with what i said earlier. I’m truly grateful for them to have me apart of Y&R. I was simply stating a frustration that’s really just about wanting Neil & I to be mixed in with more of our already established characters.
Looks like someone had a talking to.

In Other News, Sharon Case Is Starring in A Hallmark Channel Movie
While her Y&R character is involved in one of the most idiotic stories currently on daytime (see, this post), Sharon Case has nabbed herself a starring role in Man of the House, a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. Co-starring former JAG star, David James Elliott, Man of the House is,
about a workaholic ad agency executive who has lost his wife and is then fired from his job. He soon becomes a full-time Mr. Mom and begins to realize what he has been missing by not balancing his career and family life
Sharon will play Miss Jenson, the teacher of Mr. Mom’s son, Dylan, with whom Mr. Mom will share an instant attraction. The movie is set to make its small screen debut on the Hallmark Channel in 2010.

We all called this eleventy bajillion months ago. Adam switching Sharon’s baby with Ashley’s ‘baby’ has Sheila/Lauren written all over it. Maria, thanks for nothing.
Malcolm Winters Back in Genoa City?
According to Soap Opera Digest Neil’s baby brother, and Lily’s bio father, is making his way back home. Breaking the news on their website, the soap mag is reporting that tiic at Y&R have sent out a casting call to fill the role of Malcolm Winters. As I’m sure you all know, Malcolm was formerly played by current Criminal Minds star, Shemar Moore. There were rumors months back that Shemar himself would briefly return to the role while Criminal Minds was on hiatus. So much for that. SOD is saying nuMalcolm will make his first appearance in November, and that tiic are looking for a known, established actor. Hmm…we’ll see how this plays out. With this regime, I have no faith. But hopefully they’ll prove me wrong.
Tammin Sursok Joins The Cast of “Husk”
Her tenure as Y&R’s Colleen Carlton may be coming to an end, but Tammin Sursok has already begun to make post Genoa City career moves. Tammin has signed on to star in Husk, a horror film from After Dark Films. Also starring Devon Graye (“Dexter”), CJ Thomason, and Wes Chatham, Husk is about five friends who get stranded on a deserted farm that just so happens to be inhabited by killer scarecrows. Yeah, that’s right, killer scarecrows. I’m sure this movie won’t be a cinematic masterpiece, but hey, it’s a step up from playing a character that ends up on ‘view click’ after flashing her goodies to an old man. The film is being written and directed by Brett Simmons, and is based on a short film of his that was shown at Sundance, which you can watch below. (more…)
Christian LeBlanc Wins Outstanding Lead Actor
I think I’m the only person here at DT who actually watched the Daytime Emmy Awards, LOL, so I thought I’d save you the misery and tell you about all the wins that Y&R picked up. Oh, that’s right, they only took home one Emmy, and that was Christian LeBlanc for Outstanding Lead Actor. Congrats to Christian. Too bad your show sucks right now, but hey, maybe you can pick up another one next year for all of the lovely work you did featuring that chipmunk (please note the sarcasm). DB Awards 2009! Winners Announced.
Y&R was majorly snubbed at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards – which comes as a shock to absolutely no one – so we at DT & DST decided to “honour” Y&R ourselves with the first ever DB Awards. Thanks to your votes we awarded the best and the worst of the show we love to hate, including Best Quad, Fanwanker of the Year and Worst Storyline.

Are Katherine Chancellor and Michael Baldwin Headed for Guiding Light?
According to CBS Soaps in Depth they are. Although the peeps at Guiding Light are denying it, word is that both Jeanne Cooper and Christian Leblanc have already filmed scenes that will appear in the final episode of daytime’s longest running soap. Guiding Light’s final episode airs September 18th, so tune in then to see if the rumors are true. What do you think of Katherine Chancellor and Michael Baldwin showing up in Springfield? With GL coming to an end, do you think Y&R should pick up some of their characters and/or actors? Personally, I just want to see what both of them look like under the ‘natural’ lighting of GL’s ‘new’ production model, LOL.
Y&R Town Meeting Eric Braeden a No Show
According to Sara Bibel, Last Friday Sony Pictures Television President Steve Mosko called a town hall meeting to discuss the sad economic state of the union with the cast, crew and employees of Y&R, and boost morale before contract renewals where more paycuts will be required.
Despite being on set that day, Eric “I ain’t taking no stinking paycut” Braeden was a no show.
