Adrienne Frantz seems to think so. Okay, well, let me not put words in the woman’s mouth. On Air Soaps‘ Michael Fairman caught up with a few Y&R cast members at the 2009 World Magic Awards, and he asked them about Eric Braeden’s much publicized contract dispute. He chatted with Kristoff St. John, Daniel Goddard, Sharon Case, and Adrienne Frantz. But it was Adrienne’s words that caught my eye:
Eric Braeden has, for the moment, left Y&R during a contract dispute with SONY and the show. What are your thoughts on the hold-out and the stalemate between actor and the powers-that-be?
ADRIENNE:
They are cutting contracts all around. I mean everybody has to bite the bullet. It’s not like anyone gets special treatment. If you don’t want to play fair with everyone, then don’t play. If you want to step out…. everybody is dealing with the same stuff. So if anybody thinks they are better than anyone else, then they should leave if they want to. It’s a cast. We are all working together. We are all working our hardest to make it go, and if you don’t want to work with everyone than you are not helping.
To a certain extent I get what Adrienne is saying. But can anyone out there name one company for me where everyone gets paid the same salary, even when people are doing the exact same job? To say that all the actors are on the same playing field, and that no character is more important than another is a straight up lie. No matter how unfair or unsettling that may be. In any company, people are paid based on what they can bring to the company, how long they’ve been with the company, how valuable they are to the company, what kind of experience/education they have, etc. Say what you want about Eric Braeden and Victor Newman, but both have been with this show for nearly 30 years, and are very valuable to the brand that is The Young & The Restless. Victor Newman is nowhere near my favorite character on this show, but there’s a reason Eric Braeden/Victor Newman has been on so many soap magazine covers. He sells! And is probably one of the most recognizable faces in this genre, both in it, and out of it. It’s ludicrous to think that this character is on the same level as say, Daniel Romalotti.
Adrienne is a Bell favourite, who also has very close ties to Jeanne Cooper (whom I would love to hear comment on this situation), so I guess she feels entitled to say what she wants (and she has every right to voice her opinion, just like VR can). She always seems like a happy-go-lucky kinda girl, never buying into fanbases or getting too caught up in her current pairings, she goes with the flow and I respect that. I just dont think that she fully understands the EB situation though, it just seems to me like the man wnated some respect when it came to his contract negotiations, not so much about the money. he does deserve respect, but i think he should take the cut and focus on figuring out how to keep this show alive. if he isnt willing to take the cut then he cant take the heat so get the f*** out the kitchen!
It’s sad for a moment I totally forgot the name of AF character, which shows that she isn’t anywhere near the level of EB/Victor Newman…lol
I agree that EB was looking for some respect, just like MTS, JW and even VR for different reasons. I can’t fault them for that nor should the show. The man is the icon of Y&R and deserves much respect for that.
I also think it’s about favoritism too. If this were JC or PB, I am not that sure the fans would be screaming “take the pay cut and get over” as quickly.
AF doesn’t care, TGVN is the only character she hasn’t had scenes with…or at least any I remember. He probably couldn’t stand Amber’s squealing.
Is Vail Bloom off contract? Don’t really care, just curious.
As far as I am concerned if they loose EB that is the worst thing they can allow to happen. As for AF I usually fast forward when she is on screne. I have no real interest in her character. Victor Newman has kept my interest for almost 30yrs. Af and EB in my opinion are not even in the same league when it comes to staying power and audience power for Y&R.
Thank you ! I agree w/ the whole article.
U bet ! If this was JC or PB there would be an outrage ! Also, a lot of fans have been drinking the kool-aid like EB said they would and now people want Victor to leave b/c of the whole Colleen heart business. Also, I find it interesting that MS’s contract dispute was kept on the down low while everybody else had their business out in the street, especially MTS. I don’t even think they will ask JC to take one b/c they know that would really set people over the edge. Both JC and her character have been on the longest and are the most beloved out of everyone so…
Here’s my analysis of AF’s comments re: EB’s situation:
“They are cutting contracts all around. (They’ve cut my contract) I mean everybody has to bite the bullet. (I had to bite the bullet) It’s not like anyone gets special treatment. (I didn’t get special treatment) If you don’t want to play fair with everyone, then don’t play. (EB doesn’t give me the time of day) If you want to step out…. everybody is dealing with the same stuff. (Like I said, they already did this to me) So if anybody thinks they are better than anyone else, (I’m just as special as EB) then they should leave if they want to. (Go away, EB. Maybe then I’ll get a sl) It’s a cast. (I want more airtime) We are all working together. (Those I’ve worked with, work together, but I’ve never worked with EB) We are all working our hardest to make it go, and if you don’t want to work with everyone than you are not helping. (By defending his contract, Sony might pull the plug on Y&R and then I’ll loose my gravy train)
AF — stfu!!!!! Her character is inconsequential, EB’s isn’t! End off!
I couldn`t have said it better myself! I wonder how she`s going to be able to face him now! Hopefully she`ll be written out.
Otter, LOL, yes, AF isn’t the end of Y&R. EB is and he is the star of the show and he leaving is a big deal and the show will lose viewers after his exit just like Shemar Moore and Victoria Rowell took viewers with them after they left the show so you can go back to B&B because no one likes you.
Exactly. Even if u don’t like Victor or EB u have to realize that Victor is the one that tips over the dominios. W/O Victor who is everyone going to react to ? Who is going to be the villan ? Come on guys, most folk like to root for Jack but how can u do that w/o an antagonist ? This also makes Y/R look really silly for letting go of Brad when they could have just had Jack vs/ Brad instead of what ? Tucker vs. Jack or something ? Adam versus the rest of the world ? N-O !
[...] Restless. I’m Dun, and can’t even be bothered to upload a picture, LOL. Oh well, Adrienne Frantz, there goes your extended screen [...]
Adrienne who? No one cares what Adrienne Frantz has to say – she’s irrelevant to the Y&R as Scamber Moore. Amber never did fit on Y&R and never will, so the Bells should just write a storyline exit for her to go back to B&B and take SK’s Deacon with her. Amber is just trashy. AF is not even in the same stratosphere as EB in terms of clout on the show so I agree that she should just shut-up because no one cares about her character. I hope Adrienne squirms now when on set with EB. What an idiot shooting off her mouth like that! She’s as classy as Amber.Lol.
