“Are we all friends? No. Are we family? No. That ‘family’ thing is bullshit.” Eric Braeden Tells It Like It Is to TV Guide.

eric-braeden-victor-newmanThat lovely title is a direct quote from Eric Braeden, given during a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan.  The Mustache dishes on why as of now, he’s through with Y&R, how he feels the top brass disrespected him, and how he believes Victor’s entire story line as of late, has been a setup to write him out.

It’s an interesting read, but it was that top quote that caught my eye.  There’s been a lot of behind the scenes drama recently, on whether Victoria Rowell should return to the show or not.  On one side of the argument are those who say despite how ‘difficult’ she is, she’s fabulous, and the show needs her.  On the other side are those who say there are too many people on set who don’t like VR to warrant her returning and shaking the boat.  Well, according to Eric Braeden:

Are we all friends? No. Are we family? No. That “family” thing is bull—-. But do I respect t he actors I work with? You bet.

And that’s where I believe the issue lies.  These actors don’t need to like each other.  It’s a job.  I sure as hell don’t like everyone I work with, but at the end of the day, we all get the job done.

This genre is on its last legs, and they don’t have the luxury to one, get rid of veterans like Braeden, and two, turn down fan favorites who are willing to return.  The other soaps are pulling out all the stops these days, it’s time for Y&R to do the same.

p.s.  Why is it, that when Eric Braeden speaks out, he’s dropping knowledge?  But when Victoria Rowell does it, she’s being an ungrateful bitch?  I’m just asking.

I wonder if they are pushing out EB in order to get VR back on the show, since EB makes the big bucks, they need to free up some salary in order to pay Ms. Diva! Just a thought! I have to give kudos to EB for speaking up, we have all been witness to what happened to KSJ when he spoke his mind, although maybe it was just a rumor since he was on screen today! This interview kind of opens the viewers eyes as to the behind the scenes problems that we knew existed!

Because VR is a woman. I don’t even think it’s about race, either. If EB were to say that he flat out refused the paycut, he would be seen as strong-willed. When Kim Zimmer flat out refused to take paycuts, she’s played up as a diva, a bitch.

Classic sexism, in my view at least.

That’s exactly the quote i would have picked M. EB drops science on the real tip. If they’re not friends, bring Vicky back and be professional!

I agree sc. When a woman does it shes a shrew a harpie a bitch but if a man does it we should get on our knees in awe. I do like that EB spoke his mind but in a polite way and was it just me or did it sound like eb made a dig at Paul Rauch? Seeing as how he praised Maboogie maybe we’re right to think she’s a figure head.

  5. Sarah says:

Exactly. When a woman does it she’s being a diva or a b-word but when a man does it he is being a MAN. But honestly I think that it has more to do w/ the fact that VR was talking about racsim. People have this misconception that if we can all drink at the same water fountain then everything is a-okay ! Not ! The funny thing is that Bryton and KSJ have been talking about the same stuff and everyone is giving them praise. Honestly, look at what is or isn’t on our screens. The tragedy that was tyra and the sing at every social event Ana anyone ?

  6. Sarah says:

Anyho, whether u like EB or TGVN or not he u have to admit that both characters if u will are essential to this show. Yes, I know that YR was about the Fosters and the Brooks before the Victor and Nikki “Through the Eyes of Love” saga but it has been decades now since then. They are the faces of the show and I don’t know if YR can survive w/o them like they have survived w/o Marlena and John on Days.

  7. Sarah says:

BTW, big name soap celebs keep on trying to get cast on YR like Chrystal Chapelle ? but YR keeps on passing them by. I though we were on a roll w/ Billy Miller but after that ? whomp whomp !

  8. Gene says:

They turned down CC and keep bringing on dull Chance, P3, Ryder, Mac, Tyra, Ana? I would of love CC playing Diane and going against Jack, Nikki and Phyllis. But Sony wants Y&R to be off the air by 2011.

  9. Sarah says:

yes Gene, CC said that YR let her pass them by in tv guide ca. I almost broke out in hives when I read that. After having to watch the pointless Tyra/Ana foolishness for about a year I think I deserve to see something worth writing home about on my screen. Thankfully, we did get to see Tricia Cast and Beth Maithland ? this year.
