Performer of the Week 7/13/09

Christel Khalil
in the role of Lily Winters

This week, I would like to commend Christel Khalil, who plays Lily Winters for her amazing performance when she learned that she may have ovarian cancer. After the reveal that her husband is a conman and leaving him, she believes that she is pregnant, only to discover that the pregnancy test was false and there is a possibility that she may have cancer. Lily has gone from one devastating event to another, while learning this news from her aunt and with her family by her side. She takes the audience through her emotions and fears after hearing this. I hope that there is more to come for Christel with this storyline and that the writers give her a chance to show the audience more to Lily Winters. Great job Christel! With the correct material, Y & R viewers are allowed to see Christel shine and take her character to another level. Also, Kristoff St. John, once again, was given some good material. When Neil has to be there for his family and someone is facing a tragedy, Neil is great at showing his emotions. Having lost his wife and given the statistics of what may happen in Lily’s case, Kristoff once again shows us what veterans are made of. He was a great addition to the scene giving it a sense of more realness.

co-sign completely. this chick was on. i can't watch them do this to lily, but all of her scenes were on this week.

i don't think i can watch them tell her they've taken all of her reproductive organs, but here's hoping she gets a movie or prime time roll, or even joins josh on GH, so i can watch her scenes again.

I floved CKs scenes this week. She is constantly criticized by people who dislike her for reasons outside of her ability to act. But here she is acting her heart out. She is able to show anger, sorrow and joy all in the same scene. Actors are on our screens to portray how we ourselves might behave in a similar situation and CK is one of the few actresses in the younger set who is able to convey a multitude of emotions. She is NOT a one-trick pony show – snarky and insincere. There is depth to her talent and that is a credit to who she is as a young women of colour in this industry.

That said, as much as I love CK, I cannot watch this show any longer if they take away Lily's ability to have children by technology or otherwise. Lily is the future of the Black family on this show and unless they are about to bring in more non-white characters to GC, how can I continue to watch a show that thinks it's ok to "exterminate" the poc on this show?

Finally, this is jmho, but CK can do much better than Y&R. And I hope that, like VR, she finds herself in primetime and/or movies. Then, without words, she can tell all her mean-spirited critics, to "shove it!" :)

I never had any doubt that CK could act, she was never given the right material and now that she had it is much, much extreme. Y&R could have come up with a better story for her than this.

I hope this story becomes part of Y&R downfall. If fans of Lily would only stick together and show these racist azzholes the power of numbers.

^^^Jewel…we must turn off!!!! We really need to stop watching this systemically racist nonsense!
